Week of October 14 - 17

Dear Parents,
We have almost made it through the 1st 9 weeks already! Time flies! We just wanted to remind you that students are now coming back to class beginning at 8:00 a.m. to prepare for our day. Also, as we will be taking end of the 9 weeks tests, please make every effort to have your child here at school for the entire day. We know it will help your child be successful!  :)
Thank you for your support,
The 2nd grade teachers

Homework: Daily Math Homework (Test review edition this week), Word Study Practice, Inferencing assignment (counts towards reading time), Reading 20 min every night / reading log. All homework is due this Friday.

Math-Review addition of 2 digit numbers using the hundreds chart and open number line, reviewing for 1st 9 weeks math COT

Reading- Reviewing retelling (Somebody Wants But So: Students identify who the story is about, what the character wants, but what problem does that character face? So, what do they do to solve the problem), making inferences, and working on reading with comprehension

Writing-Students will continue writing about a small moment in their life. They will learn strategies to revise and edit their stories.

Word Study: We are going over long i words

Please view our Parent Word Study Calendar (2014-15) Remember this is not a word list, we teach the students to learn patterns in the English Language. Going over homework is going to be the most helpful way you can help your students get ready for the test this Friday on Oct. 10th.

Science-Students will be able to identify the parts of the water cycle.

Social Studies- Students are learning about the continents and oceans. Also, we are discussing where we are on the map and zooming from our planet all the way to the continent, then the country, the state, and the city we live in.
