This week we are learning:
Math: Students will have an in class review over adding and subtracting and will be tested over this skill early in the week. Students will then move on to Geometry where they will be able to classify and sort polygons based on the number of sides and vertices that the object has. They will also learn how to classify 3d shapes based on their attributes such as the number of sides and vertices the possess. In addition to this students will be doing some decomposing of 2d shapes. For example, they will be able to decompose two-dimensional shapes such as cutting out a square from a rectangle, dividing a shape in half, or partitioning a rectangle into identical triangles and identify the resulting geometric parts.
Science: We will continue our unit on animals and their environments. Students will learn more about adaptations that animals have that help them survive. We will look closely at migration, hibernation, and dormancy this week. In addition to this, we will have Science lab this week where they will have a chance to explore different stations that go along with our unit.

This week we are learning:
Math: We will continue practice subtraction with regrouping. We will be paying close attention to problem solving with problems where the unknown can be any part. For example, John has some plants. He buys 322 plants. He now has 389 plants. How many plants did he have to start with? The students would have to set the problem up and see that they have a total and will need to subtract to get the missing part.
Science: We will continue our unit on life cycles and adaptations. Students will be able to explain the basic needs of plants and animals as well as how they adapt to their surroundings in order to survive. For example, squirrels hibernate when the trees loose their leaves in the winter. We will have Science lab this week as well where they will have a chance to explore different stations that go along with our unit.
