Reading- Main idea and detail

Writing-Students are writing an "All About" book about a topic they selected. 

Word Study-Long a  word games,  a_e, ar, are, ade,

Science- Matter has physical properties such as shape, mass, temperature, texture and flexibility.
We can observe the physical properties of matter to classify or group it.
Matter can be identified as a solid or a liquid based on physical properties like shape and temperature.


Math- 2 digit addition problem solving.

Week of October 14 - 17

Dear Parents, 
     We have almost made it through the 1st 9 weeks already! Time flies! We just wanted to remind you that students are now coming back to class beginning at 8:00 a.m. to prepare for our day. Also, as we will be taking end of the 9 weeks tests, please make every effort to have your child here at school for the entire day. We know it will help your child be successful!  :)

Math Test Next Week

We have scheduled a Math Test for next week. Teachers will give the math test Wed or Thurs(Oct.15/16) depending on each teachers individualized schedules.  We have created a math test review and an answer key in the link below.  Please be sure to use the answer key AFTER your child has tried their best on their own. Parents should not show the answer key. The answer key is only a guiding tool for our parents to assist! :)

High Frequency Words Test

Your child will receive a sheet this week called "High Frequency Words". We will be testing your child next Thursday (10/16) on these sight words. Make sure to point and practice these words with your child. I know some parents may even want to put these on index cards and practice like flash cards. On the day of the test we will have the same list and they will have to read each word aloud.

Math- reviewing place value, comparing numbers, odd / even numbers, and going over patterns on a number chart and +1 - 1 +10 - 10. We are having a checkpoint this Friday over numbers to 100 and data analysis (graphs).

Reading- Asking questions and inferring during reading to understand what is being read better.

Writing-Students will continue writing about a small moment in their life. They will learn strategies to stretch their stories out by adding sensory details. Students are going back and revising, rereading. They are learning how to use spelling tools on the word wall.

Great First Week!

We had a great first week of school. We got to know each other and practiced our rules and procedures. The second grade knows the expectations and is setting a great example for the whole school!

Homework: Math pg 803-804, Word Study Worksheet, Reading Log 20 min every night

This week (September 2-5) we are learning:
Math-Students will be doing tally charts and bar charts.

Reading-We are learning reading expectations for the reading workshop. Students will be able to make connections to the books that they love. 

In their Blue Wednesday Folders, students will receive instructions for an "AT HOME PROJECT" for reading. They will have to create a reading timeline. 




Writing-Students will be able to plan and generate ideas for writing. Please talk with your child on stories they can write (what happened over the summertime, vacation, important people in their lives, holidays, etc).
