May 2-6

Second Grade Choir Program Tuesday 5:45pm
Homework:
Math: Geometry Homework paper
Students will go around their house and find household objects that resemble 3D shapes. For example, a refrigerator may look like a rectangular prism. They will than record the number of sides, vertices and edges for the object.

The second part of the assignment involves them finding a small 3D object at home. Something that can fit in their hand. It can be a sphere, pyramid, rectangular prism, triangular prism, cube, or even a cylinder. They will than place the object in a bag and come up with 3 hints for the class to guess what shape they have concealed in the bag. For example, they may have a pack of juicy fruit gum. The hints could be: I have 12 edges. I have 8 vertices. I am not a cube. We will be guessing each others hidden shapes in class on Friday.
Reading: Reading log
Writing: Word Study Homework
Word Study Assessment On April 29 www.tinyurl.com/2ndwordstudy
Study New Sight Words Assessment #8  www.tinyurl.com/kisdsightwords

This week we are learning:

Math:  Students will continue with Geometry where they will be able to classify and sort polygons based on the number of sides and vertices that the object has. They will also learn how to classify 3d shapes based on their attributes such as the number of sides and vertices the possess. In addition to this students will be doing some decomposing of 2d shapes. For example, they will be able to decompose two-dimensional shapes such as cutting out a square from a rectangle, dividing a shape in half, or partitioning a rectangle into identical triangles and identify the resulting geometric parts.

Science: We will continue our unit on animals and their environments. Students will learn more about  adaptations that animals have that help them survive. We will look closely at food chains this week.

Reading: Comparing different fairy tales and folk takes, identifying moral of the story, theme

Writing: your're and your (homophones), writing a fractured fairy tale
